CONTRAINDICATIONS & SAFETY
BEFORE YOUR VISIT
CONTRAINDICATIONS & SAFETY
Your wellbeing is always our priority.
Our treatments are designed to support relaxation, recovery and overall wellbeing. However, heat, cold immersion and compression therapy may not be suitable for everyone.
Please take a moment to read the guidance below before your visit. If you have an existing medical condition, are taking medication, have recently undergone surgery or are unsure whether a treatment is suitable for you, we recommend speaking with your doctor or appropriate healthcare professional before booking.
If at any point during your treatment you feel unwell or experience dizziness, faintness, chest pain, difficulty breathing, unusual discomfort or any other concerning symptoms, please stop immediately and speak to a member of the LLL Well team.
CONTRAST THERAPY SUITE
INFRARED SAUNA + ICE BATH
Our private Contrast Therapy Suite combines the deep warmth of infrared sauna with the invigorating cold of ice bath immersion.
Both heat and cold create physiological responses within the body, including changes to circulation, heart rate and blood pressure. For this reason, there are some circumstances where additional care or medical guidance is recommended.
PLEASE CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE USING CONTRAST THERAPY IF YOU HAVE:
A cardiovascular or circulatory condition – including heart disease, high or low blood pressure, impaired circulation, heart rhythm disorders, congestive heart failure or a history of heart attack or stroke.
Raynaud's phenomenon or another condition affected by cold exposure – cold immersion can cause significant constriction of the blood vessels and may exacerbate symptoms.
Diabetes, neuropathy or reduced sensation – particularly where your ability to accurately sense heat, cold or pain may be affected.
A condition affecting your ability to regulate body temperature or perspire.
Epilepsy or a history of seizures.
Kidney disease or another condition affecting fluid or electrolyte balance.
A recent operation, significant injury or acute joint or muscle injury.
A pacemaker, defibrillator or other implanted electronic medical device.
A medical condition for which you are currently receiving treatment.
Medication that may affect your heart rate, blood pressure, circulation, hydration, sweating or ability to regulate body temperature.
If you are unsure how your condition or medication may interact with heat or cold exposure, please seek medical advice before your session.
CONTRAST THERAPY IS NOT SUITABLE IF:
You are pregnant.
You currently have a fever, acute infection or are feeling significantly unwell.
You are under the influence of alcohol or recreational drugs.
You have an open wound, active skin infection or contagious skin condition that could come into contact with the facilities.
You have significantly reduced sensitivity to heat or cold.
You have an acute or unstable cardiovascular condition or have been advised by a healthcare professional to avoid significant heat, cold immersion or rapid temperature changes.
ALCOHOL
Please arrive for your session well hydrated and alcohol-free.
Alcohol can affect judgement, hydration, circulation and the body's ability to regulate temperature. Guests who appear intoxicated may be refused use of the Contrast Therapy Suite for their own safety.
ENJOYING CONTRAST THERAPY SAFELY
Contrast therapy is not about pushing your body to its limits. More extreme temperatures or longer exposure do not necessarily mean greater benefit.
Allow your body time to adjust as you move between hot and cold environments, and always listen to how you feel.
Enter and exit the ice bath slowly and carefully. We do not recommend deliberate hyperventilation, prolonged breath-holding or underwater breathwork during cold immersion.
Please do not submerge your head beneath the water.
Stay well hydrated before and after your session. If you experience dizziness, faintness, chest pain, difficulty breathing, palpitations, confusion, excessive or uncontrollable shivering, numbness or unusual discomfort, leave the sauna or ice bath immediately and seek assistance from a member of our team outside of the suite or by using the emergency button.
PRESSOTHERAPY MASSAGE
NORMATEC DYNAMIC AIR COMPRESSION
Our Normatec Pressotherapy treatment uses dynamic air compression to rhythmically massage the legs, creating a restorative treatment designed to support circulation and recovery and leave the legs feeling lighter and refreshed.
Pressotherapy is enjoyed by a wide range of guests, including those who experience tired or heavy legs, people with established lymphatic management routines and many women during pregnancy.
There are, however, certain circumstances where compression therapy may not be appropriate.
PLEASE SPEAK TO YOUR DOCTOR OR HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONAL BEFORE PRESSOTHERAPY IF YOU HAVE:
A cardiovascular or circulatory condition.
Severe or uncontrolled high blood pressure.
Diabetes, neuropathy or significantly reduced sensation in the legs or feet.
A diagnosed arterial or venous condition.
Kidney, liver or heart disease, particularly where you experience significant fluid retention or swelling.
Recently undergone surgery or sustained a significant injury or fracture involving the legs.
New, unexplained or unusual swelling, pain, numbness, redness or changes in circulation in either leg.
Any medical condition where increased circulation or external compression has been restricted by your healthcare professional.
LYMPHOEDEMA & LYMPHATIC CONDITIONS
Many of our guests with lymphoedema and other lymphatic conditions enjoy Pressotherapy as part of their wider wellbeing or established compression routine.
If you have a diagnosed lymphatic condition and already know that compression therapy is appropriate for you, please let our team know before your session so that we can make your treatment as comfortable as possible.
If you have not previously used compression therapy, your condition has recently changed, or you are currently experiencing unusual pain, redness, heat, sudden swelling or signs of infection, please speak with the healthcare professional managing your condition before booking.
Pressotherapy should not replace any prescribed lymphoedema treatment or medical care.
PRESSOTHERAPY DURING PREGNANCY
Pressotherapy can be a wonderfully relaxing treatment during pregnancy and may be particularly welcome when the legs feel tired, heavy or swollen.
Please let our team know that you are pregnant before your session so that we can ensure your treatment is comfortable and appropriate for you.
If you have a high-risk pregnancy, pregnancy-related complications, high blood pressure, sudden or unexplained swelling, significant pain or redness in one leg, or have been advised to restrict compression therapy, please speak with your midwife or doctor before booking.
If you experience sudden or significant swelling during pregnancy that has not previously been assessed, we recommend seeking medical advice before having Pressotherapy.
WHEN PRESSOTHERAPY SHOULD NOT BE USED
Please do not use Normatec Pressotherapy if you have:
Known or suspected Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT), a current blood clot or thrombophlebitis.
A suspected or recent pulmonary embolism unless specifically cleared by your medical team.
Severe peripheral arterial disease or severely impaired arterial circulation.
Acute cellulitis, infection or significant inflammation in the area being treated.
Open wounds, ulcers, recent burns or significant skin damage beneath the compression boots.
An acute fracture or injury where compression could cause pain or further harm.
Severe or uncontrolled heart failure or another condition where increased movement of fluid towards the heart has been medically contraindicated.
If you develop new one-sided leg swelling, warmth, redness, tenderness or unexplained pain, please do not use Pressotherapy until the cause has been medically assessed.
AGE REQUIREMENTS
Our Contrast Therapy Suite and Pressotherapy treatments are primarily designed for adult guests.
Guests under 16 should speak to the LLL Well team before booking and should be accompanied by an adult. Parental or guardian consent and/or medical clearance may be required.
